OBF co-organised 2024 Vasilopita & Charity Event
On Thursday 25 January 2024 at the Crypt of Aghia Sophia Cathedral, we enjoyed for a second year running a special vasilopita cutting event organised by The Greeks in The City Association co- sponsored by OBF and other Greek initiatives. Our President, John Hadjipateras spoke about the history of OBF which is the oldest organisation of its kind in the UK and the work we have done over the years. We were glad to see even more people at the event this year who had a fantastic time.
OBF’s Christmas Wonderland Event 2023
The traditional festive party organised by TEO took place. Christmas gifts were purchased locally from the two gift shops and were given to all the children on the island. Father Christmas made an appearance and gave each child their gift. Festive music was playing in the background. The Periptero (kiosk) offered food and drinks for all sponsored by TEO along with savoury food from the bakery. The event was very well attended and has become a lovely tradition for over 30 years.
OBF Ball 2023
The OBF Ball was held at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London on Saturday 4th November 2023.
Maritime Sustainability Summer Camp
On the 1st - 3rd of September the island welcomed once more Isalos.Net and Helmepa who organised a three day summer camp event partially sponsored by OBF. Our president was in attendance during those days and gave a key note speech to the students. He also participated in a round table discussion with the other dignitaries assembled there on the subject of shipping, the islands and viable growth. Our president presented his maritime vision for viable growth and what needs to be done.
Aegean Regatta 2023
On 25th August 2023, the Aegean Regatta 2023 culminated in Oinousses. Following the award of the prizes, there was an evening of musical and theatrical celebrations. The president of TEO was called upon to give a trophy to one of the winning crews.
Plaque Of Recognition
On 18th August 2023 the Oinoussai Benevolent Fund was presented with a plaque in recognition of the 80 years of patriotic contributions and activity for the island. The mayor, Mr George St. Daniil presented the plaque to the president of TEO, John M. Hadjipateras at an event organised by the Municipal Office to report their activities of the previous years and their vision for the forthcoming years. The wording on the plaque translates as Honoris Causa and Gratitude.
Fundraiser Event – Bilali Beach Party
On Friday 18th August, under the starry night sky of Oinousses, the first annual Bilali Beach Party took place.
This fundraising event was supported by the Oinoussai Benevolent Fund, who will match the funds raised.
The support and donations will go directly towards art and music projects on the island, such as the purchase of musical instruments and arrangement of art classes for young and old.

OBF co-organised 2023 Vasilopita & Charity Event
On Friday 27th January at the Crypt of Aghia Sophia Cathedral, we enjoyed a special vasilopita 2023 event organised by The Greeks in The City Association co- sponsored by OBF and other Greek initiatives. Our President, John M Hadjipateras spoke about the history of OBF which is the oldest organisation of its kind in the UK. The Vasilopita was blessed and distributed by The Archbishop of Thyateira and GB, Nikitas and the lucky coin fell to the organiser and host, Greg Hadjigrigoriadis.
OBF’s Christmas Wonderland Event 2022
Christmas Wonderland in Oinousses, the traditional festive party organised by TEO. Christmas gifts were purchased locally from the two gift shops and were given to each of the fifty children on the island. Father Christmas made a surprise appearance and gave each child their gift. The reports from the island confirm that the event was a great success. This event has become a lovely tradition, giving joy and festive spirit to the island community which is appreciated and looked forward to yearly.

Oinoussian Shipping: A story of Benevolence, Solidarity and Innovation
OBF in conjunction with Naftika Chronika and Isalos.net hosted this event at the Hellenic Centre, London.This event was part of OBF's 80th Anniversary celebrations. It was attended by both English and Greek shipping executives along with many students. A video presentation on the history and impact of Oinoussian shipping was shown and this was followed by a panel discussion on tradition, innovation, solidarity and benevolence.
Naval Academy
Earlier this month and to celebrate the start of the new academic year, we purchased a new photocopier/ scanner machine for the Naval Academy to ensure that our students have up to date equipment.
Charity Football Game – Captains vs Engineers!
Friday 27th May 2022, at the Oinoussai Stadium, a football game took place between two teams of cadets from the Naval Academies of Oinousses (The Captains) and Chios (The Engineers). The proceeds from the game were donated to a Chios charity for disabilities. OBF were proud to sponsor this event by covering the costs of the water taxis that brought over and returned the game officials, the Engineers team and fans from Lagada to Oinousses.

Summer Camp in Oinousses
Isalos.net and HELMEPA presented a Summer Camp in Oinousses, July 9 to July 11 2021. OBF was proud to be a co-sponsor at this exciting event. John M Hadjipateras, OBF President, was invited to give a keynote speech. The programme included lectures, guided tours and open dialogue on new green technologies, policies and laws on blue development, sustainability and awareness of marine environmental protection. We were beyond delighted that Oinousses was chosen to host this innovative event.
OBF’s Christmas Gifts To The School Children Of Oinoussai
As is our tradition every year, the OBF arranged for all the school children on the island to be given Christmas gifts. This year the perfect venue for this event was the Christmas Wonderland set up by the Mayor's Office. OBF offered savoury snacks and Christmas cookies to the children and their parents whilst Santa and his helper handed out the gifts. The gifts were purchased from the general stores on the island to support the community.
